February is Dental Month

February 19, 2014

February is National Children's Dental Health Month

February is a month set aside to celebrate and create awareness of good oral health and habits for children.  Dentists across the United States are taking this opportunity to teach and encourage all children to take the necessary steps to have an amazing smile!  It's very important to be aware of common oral health problems in our children.  When detected early, it prevents many more severe problems and lessens the unnecessary suffering a child may encounter in their mouth.  A happy smile begins at home and these are the following things parents should know to help create smiles strong and beautiful:

*Baby teeth are important!  You should begin wiping or brushing as soon as they erupt.
*A bad tooth and untreated cavities are painful and can lead to infection.
*Flossing once each day
*Avoid sugary foods (As much as possible)
*Brush at least two times each day for a least two full minutes

We hope to help encourage our students to continue to do their very best in practicing the best possible oral health care.  During the month of February, information about dental health will be provided to students.  Please take this opportunity to visit with your child(ren) about the importance of brushing, flossing, and eating healthy!

Thank you,
Mrs. Shirley, RN
South Page School Nurse
